Our history and stories have always lived in the spoken word, long before books, films, or podcasts. This timeless tradition is the only channel we truly own and control. Black Storytelling Week is here to encourage us to continue to lean on this powerful medium well into the future.
When was the last time you sat down with your family - adopted, biological, or chosen - and exchanged stories about your people and where you come from?
This is your opportunity to do just that.
CELEBRATING TOGETHER
For our inaugural year, let's keep it simple: we encourage every family - adopted, biological, and chosen - to dedicate at least one hour to sharing family stories. We highly recommend recording them too!
As Black Storytelling Week grows, we envision organizing events and programming to celebrate the holiday and foster deeper engagement within local communities.
Our goal is to create a more intentional, collective habit of exchanging stories within our families, sitting down for meaningful conversations, and preserving our history together.
